Otto Sauter’s Christmas at the Wartburg Castle
Otto Sauter’s Christmas at the Wartburg Castle has become a
tradition since many years at the Wartburg Festival. His always
sold out concerts with his ensemble Ten of the Best in the
historical ceremonial hall of the more than 1.000 years old
castle are taking place at the first Advent weekend and usher
in the Christmas season. The fascinating UNESCO World
Heritage castle, was the home of St. Elisabeth of Hungary, the
place where Martin Luther translated the New Testament of
the Bible into German, the supposed setting for the legendary
Sängerkrieg and the site of the Wartburg festival of 1817. It was
an important inspiration for King Ludwig II when he decided to
build Neuschwanstein Castle.
In 1991, Otto Sauter, one of the world‘s leading soloists on the
piccolo trumpet, had the idea of putting together the ensemble „Ten of the Best“ with ten
of the best trumpet players in the world, like the principal trumpet of the Vienna State
Opera, the Royal Stockholm Opera, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Radio
Symphony Orchestra Prague as well as internationally renowned trumpet players from
Europe, the United States, Mexico and Japan. Otto Sauter regularly invites internationally
renowned artists to perform with „Ten of the Best“, like STING guitarist Dominic Miller
or Level 42 keyboarder Mike Lindup. They regularly go successfully on concert tour in
Europe, Japan, USA and Latin America. In August 2001 they launched the inauguration
of the new Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, in front of 70.000 spectators.
Highlight 2006 under the artistic direction of Otto Sauter was the „Playtime Live City Concert
Tour“, the German music festival for the FIFA Football World Championship 2006.
